Abstract

Once a space intended to be a bastion of unencumbered critical examination, the university was a place in which instructors and students were able to engage in critical examination. Today, however, this focus on critical thought and social justice has been challenged by the encroachment of neoliberalism, which does opposes pedagogy that challenges power. In this paper, I argue that critically-minded instructors can resist the influence of neoliberalism in the university by challenging students to recognize and respond to power through critical communication pedagogy.
