Abstract
As a criminal justice intervention mindfulness practice and mindfulness-based interventions (MRI’s) like mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) offer great promise for changing anti-social and criminal attitudes and behaviors in at risk or incarcerated youth and adults. Research in the area of brain science opens up a new realm of possibility for correcting human behavior and reshaping existing models of corrections. The purpose of this paper is to present an overview of this research and the overall potential it represents for a new direction in corrections that empowers practitioners to produce a radical difference in recidivism.
