Abstract
The aim of this paper is to explore the structures of the governing bodies at Spanish universities paying special attention to the gender question. This study attempts to contribute to the knowledge of sustainability in universities by analysing women’s participation in the university governing bodies and the relationship between women’s presence in the top tiers of university management and sustainability reporting. To this end, the paper applies a descriptive methodology and presents an exploratory analysis of single-member bodies and collegiate bodies of Spanish public universities. The main results show that women’s participation is unbalanced in the governing bodies of universities due to the low number of women holding positions of high responsibility in these institutions.
