Abstract

In the shadow of the world financial and economic crisis, the authors briefly discuss topics such as the Haiti earthquake of 2010, climate change, the Gaza conflict, and the renovation of the United National headquarter complex. Furthermore, they outline the activities of the General Assembly, the Secretariat, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Finally, they recap conferences, high level meetings and missions such as the United Nations African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS), United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), and the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
