Abstract

This document comprises the proceedings of an OECD roundtable on competition issues in joint ventures held in October 2000.

As is well known, joint ventures can have significant benefits but also significant risks of anti-competitive effects. As a result joint ventures are subject to close scrutiny by competition officials. How can this scrutinty process be enhanced? What is the role for guidelines and safe harbours? Which forms of joint ventures are most likely to raise competition concerns? What is the role of economic analysis in reviewing the competitive effects of joint ventures?

This document includes an executive summary and issues paper by the Secretariat, twelve delegation submission, and a summary of the oral discussion.
