Abstract
The paper is devoted to the analysis public communications in antiquity as the resource of public relations. In our opinion different approaches to discovering the essence of their nature and consequences demonstrate examples of the past described by the philosophers of antiquity. We concentrated on the history of public relations, which before its emergence as a professional activity existed in the form of social communication. Such forms of communication as the art of dialogue, organization of performance, as well as speechwriting, public discussions, etc. were developed in ancient Greece and Rome. We made the conclusion that the period of ancient Greece and Rome gave remarkable stories of oral and written communication to history, setting the stage for new forms and means of social interaction. Social communications and public relations, to which they relate, have emerged as a type of professional activity relatively recently, but are inextricably linked with the entire history of mankind.
