Abstract

The paper deals with the intricate relationship between the principle of permanent sovereignty over natural resources and the phenomenon of land grabbing, trying to assess how this practice might affect a host state’s ability to regulate in favour of its territorial community, and what kind of legal consequences arise at an international level. Following this assessment, the paper tries to identify EU policy areas which might be relevant for the ‘race to land’, while at the same time suggesting policy proposals that might tackle the negative effects generated by land grabbing.
