Abstract

This online appendix contains additional results for Atanasov and Black (2018, The Trouble with Instruments: The Need for Pre-Treatment Balance in Shock-IV Designs (Trouble with Instruments). Part 1 of the Appendix provides an extended checklist for implementing shock-IV designs. Part 2 summarizes our search strategy for the shock-IV papers we study here. Part 3 contains further tests of the Board Independence IVs used in DMO and similar papers. Part 4 provides additional results from our re-examination of Iliev and D&D. In Part 5, we discuss selected additional shock-IV papers that were not re-examined in detail in the text.
