Abstract

Renewable energy sources are being increasingly implemented in many applications due to the growing concern of environmental pollution. The PV system appears to be the most promising one, because it is environmentally clean in nature and it directly converts solar energy into electrical energy. The output voltage comes from the PV panel is low. For this, a DC-DC converter is required to boost up the PV panel output voltage to required level. This paper deals with the utilization of a common grounded z-source converter in solar PV array based BLDC motor drive as an intermediate DC-DC converter between SPV array and a voltage source inverter (VSI) in order to achieve the maximum efficiency of the solar PV array. Compared with the traditional Z-source DC-DC converter, the proposed converter provide the common ground for the input and output without any additional components, which results in low cost and small size. Higher voltage gain with reduced voltage stresses in switches and diodes is the another feature of this converter. Therefore, the efficiency and reliability of the proposed converter can be improved. Maximum power from solar panel can be obtained using incremental conductance algorithm. The various performance analysis of the proposed system is carried out in MATLAB/simulink platform.
