Noé's Queer Horrorscape: Queer Theory, The Child and The World of Climax

Abstract
Gaspar Noé is a film director who's highly controversial work has been left untouched by queer theory. In this piece I will look to change this by exploring the figure of 'The Child' in his most recent film 'Climax' (2018). I will put 'Climax' in dialogue with the queer work of Edelman, Halberstam and Stockton using their insights to explore the figure of 'The Child' in 'Climax' before letting Noé's work reflect back on theirs. This piece will conclude that 'Climax' deconstructs the idea of the normative child and child-rearing in such a way as to expand on the work on Stockton and tentatively problematize that of Halberstam. The structure of my work will move through an introduction, summary of 'Climax', review of the relevant literature, analysis and finally conclusion.
