Abstract
This memoriam honors the life of Burns H. Weston (1933-2015). Weston was an esteemed faculty member at the University of Iowa College of Law, where he developed the international and comparative law program and contributed to Iowa Law’s national and global reputations. He was the founding director of the University of Iowa World Order Studies Program, which evolved into the University’s Global Studies Program. He was also a Senior Fellow and Director of the Transnational Academic Program of the Institute for World Order in New York. An important international law and human rights scholar, he was instrumental in founding Iowa’s third student-edited law journal, Transnational Law & Contemporary Problems, serving also as its first faculty advisor. He was a scholar of considerable reach, using the vantage points of Law, Science, and Policy jurisprudence and focusing on the centrality of human rights and human dignity imperatives.
