Abstract

Conflict is a natural phenomenon among creatures. It can be beneficial as it can be otherwise; it depends on how it is managed. Islam, therefore, provides different means to avoid and resolve conflict. Proper consultation (shuura) can increase confidence and trust among the stakeholders in a system. During the consultation, people and areas that need due and sincere advice (naseehah) will be ascertained. Consequently, effective cooperation (ta'aawun) will pervade the system. A vivid empirical study of early Islam revealed the peaceful and dysfunctional-conflict-free environment which was due to the S-N-T model of conflict avoidance in place during the periods. This work, therefore, examined the model with instances during the first 63 years of Islam.
