Abstract

The renewable energy transition is reshaping not just the physical infrastructure of the electric power industry but traditional utility regulation. Ethical drivers for the transition are expanding energy law’s narrow conceptions of fairness, which have been limited by overemphasis on economic dynamics between utilities and consumers. Drawing from environmental ethics, this chapter addresses ethical perspectives underlying the renewable energy transition as a key strategy for global climate change mitigation.
