Abstract
This essay addresses the relationship between economic inequality and the Irish Constitution of 1937. The essay focuses on the Constitution Review Group's discussion in 1996 of "whether there should be provision for specific economic rights as a counterweight to economic inequality" in the context of the constitutional equality guarantee in Article 40.1.
