CPEC and Intellectual Property Laws in Pakistan

Abstract
The "World Trade Organization (WTO)" is an organization that Pakistan is a part of, the primary goal of which is to improve international trade in a long-term, sustainable way. Moreover, Pakistan stands behind the “Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Work of 1886” in addition to the “Universal Copyright Convention of 1952” and “The Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, 1995 (TRIPs)”. On 1 January 1995, Pakistan signed the “Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs Agreement)” with the “World Trade Organization (WTO)” in terms of the protection afforded to intellectual property. This study is based on the hegemonic stability theory (HST) of political science and international relations. This theory assumes that to sustain an international system, a single prominent state must be communicative and ensure that the regulation of interaction among core members of the system persists. (Wohlforth, 2008). The study used a qualitative approach to analyze the literature gathered from primary and secondary sources.
