Abstract

This perspective paper notes that while Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly pervading businesses around the world and business organizations recognize the ethical implications of AI, there persists a significant gap between awareness and action regarding ethical development and deployment of AI. Although many organizations acknowledge the potential of AI to harm the society, robust ethical frameworks, guidelines and practices to ensure responsible AI deployment are not in place. This author discusses the current state of AI ethics in businesses as well as the gaps in relevant research, identifies key challenges and examines the existing ethical frameworks before proposing a comprehensive framework for ensuring ethical AI that can address issues of standardization as well as implementation of the standard. The paper argues that organizations must prioritize ethical considerations in development and usage of AI. By proposing actionable recommendations, and future directions for research, this paper aims to contribute to a more ethical and responsible future of AI. Author closes the paper with the hopeful objective that it would agitate the community to engage their thought process to create robust ethical ecosystem for AI.
