Crime Trend Analysis Through Smart City Innovations: Strategic Insights addressing Integration Challenges 

Abstract

The integration of Smart City initiatives is crucial in the field of public safety. However, literature suggests that challenges persist in technology integration and the willingness to shift from traditional approaches to incorporating innovations in public safety.With these, the study aims to assess the impact of Smart City initiatives on crime trends over the past five years, covering both the period before and after the integration of Smart City technologies. Additionally, it aims for the formulation of a strategic approach by identifying the challenges encountered by Smart City personnel that affect their operations. Using a concurrent parallel design, the study applies descriptive analysis to examine crime trend patterns and thematic analysis to identify key challenges and strategies for the smooth integration and transition of smart city innovations in crime prevention. Key findings are presented in a joint display, categorized under four main criteria: crime trends, communication, technology integration, and preventive measures. The results indicate a positive impact of Smart City initiatives, particularly in information dissemination. However, challenges hinder its optimal performance, including language barriers, which limit accessibility for non-English-speaking communities, and data privacy concerns. To address these challenges, the study identifies several strategic solutions, such as the development of multilingual interfaces, strengthening data protection measures, and implementing training programs to enhance public acceptance of Smart City technologies.
