This initial workshop in the East-West Center Mega-Regionalism — New Challenges for Trade and Innovation (MCTI) workshop series focused on emerging trends in Megaregional Trade Agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), and their impact on innovation. Taking place at the East-West Center in Honolulu on January 20-21, 2016, the workshop brought together trade economists with experts on innovation, intellectual property rights, competition law, technical standards, and industrial development. Speakers came from the US, Asia and Europe. Dieter Ernst, East-West Center senior fellow and Michael Plummer, director of SAIS Europe, Johns Hopkins University, were the co-coordinators of this activity.
