“  I'm currently working on proportionality in self-defense. Here's a new way of looking at the (narrow) proportionality requirement in self-defense. Rather than deeming it a constraint on the permissibility of defensive actions, I think that the claim that the defensive action should not be disproportional to the harm averted is better understood as a plea to the defender to show leniency in defending himself. The defender's duty to address this plea is best understood as an imperfect duty.  ”
