“
In over 30 years as a diplomat, attorney, writer and educator, the art of international negotiation has become my passion. I teach negotiations and UN law and practice, and enjoy writing about my experiences negotiating with and about China,North Korea, Libya, the United Nations and the Middle East. I'm currently writing about the international human rights implications of COVID-related restrictions, the regulation of new technologies in warfare, and nuclear negotiations with North Korea. I am also working on atrocity prevention, training of diplomats, and international reconciliation issues. I am interested in new areas to apply the negotiation theories I have outlines in my forthcoming book "Getting More Back: A Diplomat's History Offers Negotiating Lessons You Can Use From North Korea to Libya and From China to the United Nations."
