Abstract

CalPe SA is a company that was founded in 1946 in the city of Córdoba, Argentina, and has since focused in designing, manufacturing and selling shoes for women mostly. CalPe SA is the short form of 'Calzados Pezutti Sociedad Anonima', a company founded by Mr. Carlo Pezutti after arriving in Argentina from his native Italy where he learnt the shoe making business. During its 60 years of existence CalPe SA has survived several economic crises and has seen a general deterioration of the purchasing power of the middle class, their customers. The objective of this case is to show that a management control tool such as the BSC can be excellent to guide towards the achievement of an objective but it has to be carefully adapted when used for a second function such as compensation because it can generate very adverse effects.
