Abstract

This paper focuses on franchisor failure in Australia and its impact on franchisees. Whilst the emphasis will be on the effect the franchisor's insolvency has on individual franchisees, the cause of the insolvency and the challenges franchisor insolvency poses for advisers, researchers and policy makers will also be considered. Material is drawn from a pilot study on the legal and economic impact of franchisor insolvency on franchisees in Australia. Tentative solutions are proposed.
