Abstract
Over the last ten years, the issue of private sector participation in water infrastructure has led to highly politicized discussions. This background note aims to respond to the growing need for a dispassionate approach by providing a stocktaking of water and sanitation sector and private sector participation in a selection of 16 Sub-Saharan African countries.
