Abstract

Before the 1996 Bill C-41 amendments codifying the principles purposes and procedures of sentencing, it is unlikely that a text on sentencing would have been seen as an essential part of Canadian law. The publication of Allan Manson's book on sentencing as part of Irwin's Essentials of Canadian Law is a testament to increased interest and scholarship about sentencing. Allan Manson is, however, no newcomer to the topic. His text, combined with his co-authored teaching material published a year earlier, caps over two decades of insightful scholarship on sentencing and related issues.
