Holistic wellness implies taking care of the mind, body and spirit beyond catering to the vital needs of food, shelter and the indispensable medical care. Wellness grew as a popular concept in the beginning of 19th century, just at the time when the world began marching towards industrialization and when the nouveau riche of the society could afford to devote the time and the resources to achieve wellness. Holistic wellness is often described as the state which brings together health and happiness. Thus, the factors that play a role in contributing to health and happiness also contribute to holistic wellness. To facilitate wellness, one needs to work on its determining factors. Some of the determining factors of holistic wellness could be health living, spirituality, family, environment, work, money and security, health services, social support and leisure. Holistic wellness could also be achieved through various alternative and natural therapies. Several forms of alternative therapies are known to contribute to holistic wellness.
