Abstract

The growth in the number of endowed positions in U.S. universities and business schools is a measure of the acceptance and growing status of entrepreneurship research. The number of endowed chairs and professorships in entrepreneurship and related fields grew 71 percent, from 237 in 1999 to 406 in 2003.

This report presents the results of the 2004 Endowed Positions Survey on endowed positions in entrepreneurship and related fields. Discussed are results for position demographics, salaries, salary discrepancy, stipends types and amounts, travel and research budgets, course loads, and endowments. Results are given for 52 percent of eligible endowed positions and 70 percent of faculty positions related to entrepreneurship.

Appendices discuss background, methodology, strategy, terms, and prior coverage of the survey. A final appendix lists the institution, title, and incumbent of each position. (TNM).

Keywords: colleges & universities, entrepreneurship education, faculty business education, firm management
