From the economic viewpoint, the consumption of status goods presents peculiar characteristics. The behavior of producers and consumers of status goods reveals the special properties of this market. Here, we explain the main reasons for this differentiation from regular consumption goods. Furthermore, we present a brief review of the literature to show the latest scientific developments in the area of status goods. Finally, we discuss the most famous and promising lines for future research in this field.
