Abstract

This small legal article deals with an almost daily occurrence when one finds a "lost" article. It discusses the judicial decisions and statutes of Missouri relating to that simple, but often difficult subject.

Not too much has been written about this practical subject. This article deals with the law of the state of Missouri when one "finds" lost personal property and discusses the differences between "lost" and "mislaid" property. It discusses the Missouri judicial decisions and compares them with judicial decisions in other states. It also discusses the legal rights and duties of a finder under the statutory law of Missouri.

It concludes that many of the Missouri judicial decisions are leading ones often cited in other states.

Keywords: missouri, law of lost property
