Abstract

The Article explores the correlation between love and marriage from a literary, historic and legal perspective. The article argues that throughout history there was a clear dichotomy between love and marriage, and that it is only relatively recently that love has become the major justification for marriage. The article thus argues that current justifications for marriage cannot serve to exclude various groups from equal participation in the institution.
