Obtaining credible comparative information regarding the effects of instructional programs has long been recognized as an important but complex task. Although a number of approaches have and are being used for this purpose, no adequate methodology is yet available. This study provides an empirical exemplar of a new methodology for providing comparative proficiency data on instructional programs. It was conducted to assess the comparative effects of four kindergarten reading readiness programs. The article provides details about the methods employed and presents comparative findings.
