Abstract

Text of a speech given to the October 10-12, 2004 "International Symposium on Amendment of the PRC Company Law", Shanghai, prior to the late 2005 amendment of the Chinese Company Law. The speech addresses the ways in which the special characteristics of China's Reform-era political economy and its public companies require specific legal and regulatory structures to help in assuring better corporate governance and more attractive capital markets.
