Differing answers to the title question are explored in this review of books by Robert Reich, John Quelch & Katherine Jocz, and Keith Dinnie. A slightly shorter version of this review appeared in Japanese in the inaugural issue (Spring 2008) of Nikkei Business Management [Nikkei Bijinesu Manejimento] under the title "Shihonshugi e no shinkou ga yuragu beikoku" (Y.Sunada, trans.).
