Abstract

Council Regulation (EEC) No 865/84 established within the European Union the milk quota and super levy system, with the purpose of restricting milk production. This restriction to competition has had an effect on milk price and has generated important transformations in the productive structure of the Catalan milk sector. At the moment, there is a debate about suppressing the milk quota and super levy system. This suppression would entail an increase in production, a drop in the milk price and a greater intensification of the farms. The aim of this is to analyze the impact of the abolition of the system in the Catalan milk market, in order to confirm or discard the aforementioned hypotheses.
