Abstract
The article deals with diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Colombia over the past twenty years. It starts with a review of the incident in the Gulf of Venezuela, the last major incident between the two countries, and the subsequent launching of a new round of negotiations. The negotiations are comprised of four different pillars, which have been developed during the time of the negotiation. The article shows the process of development of a new framework of negotiations, from a face-off situation to a more cooperative environment that has included five Colombian presidents and four Venezuelan presidents, including the polemic Hugo Chavez, who has supported the process of negotiation
