Abstract
In this paper it is proposed that aiming for economic efficiency in health care policy does not lead to economically efficient outcomes nor does it result in beneficent health care and welfare outcomes. It is argued that the aim of increasing economic efficiency in health care has proven to be flawed and that a different, more suitable standard for legislation, adjudication, and policy making should be adopted in this area.
