Abstract

The paper analyzes the implementation of Creative Commons licenses in Brazil from the legal, economic and social points of view, provided that the role of the Federal Government and of part of academia has been remarkable and that such licenses are perceived as an important element in the modernization of the national legal framework concerning copyright. Apart from the strictly contractual and legal point of view, the article will address some economic and social aspects and, in particular, it will assess whether and to what extent Creative Commons licenses can enhance economic and social growth through the creation of new enterprises, with a special focus on the role played by the Pontos de Cultura in the Brazilian society.
