Abstract
The SME Sector occupies an important place in the Indian Economy, especially in terms of creation of employment opportunities that provide a source of living to millions of people and their regional dispersal. In order to continue to play this role, SME Industries have to be competitive and commercially viable. Industrial units undertake changes, technological or other, as a reaction to the movements in their business environments.
The paper examines the challenges, constraints, opportunities and strategies for mobilizing investments, competency development, technological upgradation, quality improvement and relationship of strategies with overall performance for Small and Medium Enterprises in Indian Automobile Sector in the context of growing economy. The data for this study has been acquired from an extensive survey of Indian SMEs in the Automobile Sector and from the experienced bankers and Officials/Policy makers of Government of India.
