Abstract

This article discusses local regulatory techniques utilized by cities for controlling the location and operation of places of worship in the United States. The article also examines national constitutional and statutory protections afforded local places of worship from discriminatory and unreasonable local controls, including recent court decisions applying the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act.
