Abstract

Both the number of female-owned businesses and thelevel of international trade continue to increase on a global scale.Anoverview of the literature and statistics regarding the increase in femaleentrepreneurship and in internationalization are presented.The benefitsof internationalizing are discussed. The twelve keys to creating an international entrepreneurial mindset areoutlined. Some of the keys to developing a global orientation toentrepreneurship include:comfort with change; a willingness to learnabout other cultures; passion and enthusiasm; experience traveling to at leastone foreign country; and an all-encompassing perspective. The factors toconsider when choosing a market for expansion are examined. Finally, the author suggests ten action-oriented business philosophies thathave aided her in her experiences as an internationalentrepreneur.Included in this list are the followingsuggestions:research and map out your export journey; know your goals andstrive for them; trust your instincts; and make personal contact withconsideration and professionalism.(AKP)
