Abstract

This paper mainly analyzes generational differences of Italian households connected with life style changes of Mediterranean type diet. A framework based on the theory of life cycle decompose cohort, age and time effects in order to evaluate the expected dynamics in the consumption of goods that characterize this households’ life style. Suitable econometric pecification has been used for specific categories of the Mediterranean type diet when zero consumption was observed. After having included socio-economic variables, demographic characterizations and income levels of households, the empirical results show a reduction of foods that characterize Mediterranean type consumption from older versus younger generations more marked in the Northern regions of the Italy.
