Abstract

The quality of evidence for the CCTV identification is a persistent problem and remains a difficult issue.Research involving both familiar and unfamiliar face matching indicates that these are both difficult tasks;familiar face matching is comparatively more robust.Repeated viewing may not necessarily provide familiarity.Expert evidence is generally provided for corroborating additional evidence alongside eyewitness or other forensic reports.High quality imagery would not generally require expert opinion, which is a failure of current practices and procedure

Keywords: CCTV, evidence, identity
