Abstract

A very important, primary and necessary factor in approaching and understanding any text is a perception about its style of writing. Accordingly, in this paper I want to explore the writing style of Xenophon with no specific label and derive from this a method that can be applied for understanding his written texts.

For this purpose I will focus on Memorabilia, Book four chapters five and six. It seems that these two chapters can provide the method. And about the case studies for applying and proving the mentioned method I think that in the Memorabilia itself there are explicit and implicit signs and statements that can be selected as proper cases. In other words, in a text or written narration about method at the same time it is possible to find its affirmative and positive testimonies that support the reconstructed and applied method. But apart from this notion I will examine Xenophon version of the Apology of Socrates as the appropriate case research.
