Abstract

This essay examines the Valery Tishkov's controversial contribution to the anthropology of war: Chechnya: Life in a War-Torn Society, by Valery Tishkov, with a forward by Mikhail S. Gorbachev. Berkeley: University of California Press, 2004. Russia’ s leading Chechnya expert has produced a landmark work - but it is a landmark that also shows that Chechens and Russians still cannot hear each other.
