Abstract
In Western Europe, nationalisation and privatization alike were often implemented for similar reasons across countries. In the case of privatization, though this was a decision for government at the national, and not the European level, processes of economic and monetary integration in Europe proved decisive in explaining major trends in privatisation in the region.
