Abstract

This paper makes a case for seeing Romani marginalisation from the perspective of multi-dimensional exclusion. It takes the deeply entrenched and multi-faceted problems that many Roma in Central and Eastern Europe face on a daily basis and considers the extent to which a specific litigation strategy based on non-discrimination can address these complex problems. It focuses on multi-dimensional inequality and, in doing so, hope to stress the necessity of a more nuanced line of attack to tackling the long history of Romani marginalisation and discrimination. The argument focuses on exclusion at the intersection between race and poverty.
