Abstract

The theory of general relativity admits an interpretation as a theory of time rather than gravitation. This interpretation is based on relaxing the assumption inherent in the Lorentz transformation that, once the observer’s velocity is taken into account, time flows at the same rate everywhere. Interpreting general relativity as a theory of time rather than gravitation removes the difficulty for a unified theory of quantum mechanics and relativity. Allowing for changing time rates will modify calculations for space‐time singularities or for high energy physics, such as for particle accelerators or for fusion. The proposed theory of time is consistent with a change of paradigm identifying observation with awareness.
