Abstract

This article investigates the effects and impacts of national cultural influences upon the processes involved in international business negotiations. The growing global diversity of business transactions means that there is the increased likelihood of national cultural conflict, between divergent groups within an international business negotiation. This article will discuss the extant literature on national culture with particular reference to the growing importance of these international business negotiations. Finally the case will be made for the need to develop awareness and understanding of the effect of national culture on negotiating styles, behaviours and environments to reduce the incidence of ambiguity and conflict, increasing the potential likelihood of negotiation success.
