Abstract

What is the variety of possible, and actual, democratic patterns of state-religion –society relations? I suggest seven responses, not all of which I have space to fully develop, and I focus on four in particular: 1) “separatist”, 2) “established religion”, 3) “positive accommodation” and 4) “respect all, positive cooperation, and principled distance”.
