Abstract

This essay assesses G. A. Cohen's contributions to the "Equality of What?" debate as an interpretation of the ethics of socialism that orients egalitarian political philosophy against the organization of the economy around market exchange and private ownership. Viewed in this light, Cohen's project is unsuccessful.

Keywords: equality, equality of opportunity, socialism, prioritarianism
