Abstract

Limited over cricket matches, with twenty over a side, popularly called as the Twenty-20 cricket, and has gained popularity amongst cricket lovers around the world in the first decade of the Twenty first century. The pace at which the game is played, exciting scoring shots, high run rate and the small time required to complete the game are some of the reasons for its popularity. In the other versions of the game viz. test cricket and one day cricket both winning the toss and playing at home ground are considered to be advantageous. The study enquires into issues related to the benefit of winning of a toss and the advantage of playing in home ground in the final outcome of such cricket matches. The time at which the match is been played viz. day or day-night is also included in the model. Statistical tools, especially the binomial logistic regression with and without interaction amongst the explanatory variables are used to reach the results. The paper also extended the study specific to eight individual teams to examine home advantage and toss effects whether the results varied for higher ranked teams. Further, a comparison is to be done between the results of team Australia and India obtained by logistic regression analysis using Wald test statistics.
